An established best-selling author is seeking an intern to support the marketing, booking and coordination of in-person and virtual speaking engagements. The speaker's focus is on employment, résumé writing, job interviews and recruiting with a heavy focus on military veterans and transitioning service members. The speaker also customizes content for keynote speeches, workshops, one-on-one training and consultations as well as speaker panels. The primary focus for the intern is on generating new paid speaking engagements, growing the speaker's network and in representing the speaker to meeting planners. The ideal candidate will have experience relating to sales, a passion for career development and a genuine interest in supporting those who have sacrificed in service to the armed forces. Upon successful completion of the internship, the speaker will provide a letter of recommendation showcasing the contributions and skill set of the intern.
Signs of a Great, LLC is located in Central Florida, however the internship offers a flexible work schedule and can be completed working remotely from anywhere in the United States. This role can be performed as a supplement to your existing job and is flexible to school schedules. It is required that some networking and outbound sales calls are conducted during normal business hours on Eastern Standard Time.
The speaker will provide guidance and direction as well as feedback and training to aid in the development of the intern’s sales skills. The student will provide any information needed relating to measurements required to receive credit as applicable.
Position Overview:
- Marketing and Business Development: The intern is responsible for creating and implementing a marketing and business development strategy using extensive existing media assets and highlighting the speaker’s superb qualifications. The intern will make outbound sales calls and connect in-person and/or virtually with a broad network including meeting planners, event coordinators, speaker bureaus, leaders of non-profit organizations, special interest associations, training groups, colleges and universities. The intern will leverage his or her existing network and will actively seek to grow a valuable network of new contacts. The intern may also schedule social media posts relating to secured events, request testimonials after events and follow-up to secure additional bookings.
- Contract Negotiation: The intern will participate in the negotiation of contracts for the speaker. The intern may also secure payment for travel expenses, book sales and coaching or consultation. The intern will find creative solutions the speaker can provide to match the client's goals and budget.
- Booking and Travel Planning: The intern will support booking and travel planning for all events. The intern may arrange travel to and from events nationwide including booking air, hotel and car rental reservations. The intern may arrange a travel itinerary for each trip, optimize the time spent traveling and seek additional revenue opportunities in geographic proximity to booked events.
Basic Qualifications:
- Sales experience, ideally in planning conventions or professional conferences, booking speakers or as a talent manager or booking agent.
- Possess superb networking and relationship building skills.
- Proven experience using excellent outbound sales skills with a strong ability to negotiate and close deals.
- Possess or comfortable developing a current network of viable leads including speaker bureaus, meeting and event planners, college and university contacts, organizations supporting the military and veterans, non-profits and the like.
- Previous experience planning travel arrangements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and with social media marketing tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Military service in any branch, experience in a civilian role within the Department of Defense or experience serving in or working with military non-profit groups or installation family readiness and/or military spouse support groups.
- Proven success driving sales results from cold calling and networking
- Extensive knowledge of, experience in and contacts within the Orlando, Florida convention market or other Florida markets.
- Experience working as a speaker manager representing a number of speakers.
- Experience managing Certified Speaking Professionals or successfully submitting CSP certification applications.
- Experience working for a speaker bureau, talent agency or other similar group.
- Experience using the e-Speakers booking platform and related tools.
- Fluency in a foreign language.
Position Type:
Unpaid Internship - Signs of a Great, LLC will happily provide the student with documentation to submit for college credit, if applicable.

Experience planning meetings, booking speakers or as a talent manager or booking agent.
Required Education:
High school or equivalent
Currently enrolled in college or graduated within 6 months
